231 Consumer Chemistry

(Wt. 1.00, 1 Unit)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of one year of science w/Lab at the high school level.

This course is recommended for those students who need to fulfill their 3rd year science requirement. Laboratory investigations are done during regular class periods. The course will introduce students to chemical science with an emphasis on consumer products and making informed choices. This course cannot be taken by anyone that has taken and passed regents chemistry.

235 Regents Chemistry w/Lab

(Wt. 1.00, 1 Unit)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Integrated Algebra and one previous science course with a separate laboratory component.

Students learn to explain, analyze, and interpret chemical processes.

opics include atoms, bonding, matter and energy, stoichiometry, kinetics, the periodic table, acid and bases, and organic chemistry. The course is based on the NYS Core Curriculum for chemistry and includes real life applications. This course ends with the Regents examination in Chemistry.

239 Honors Chemistry w/Lab

(Wt. 1.05, 1 Unit)

Prerequisite: See honors criteria

This course is designed for the highly motivated learner with above average ability who plans on majoring in science in college. The students are expected to take the Regents examination in Chemistry, which is offered in June. Problem solving, laboratory experiments, models, and real-life applications are emphasized. Topics include atoms, bonding, matter and energy, stoichiometry, kinetics, the periodic table, acid and bases, and organic chemistry.
