Students in Kindergarten and First grade will be bringing home fiction and non-fiction books that are at their emerging reader levels.  I would encourage care-givers to have your child read the book with you multiple times during the week.  Repeating text, looking at pictures and recognizing print text as words are all parts of beginning reading.  This important process is building the foundations of their future reading success and you can do that with your child nightly.

Middle grades are also being encouraged to take out chapter books geared toward their reading level.  We have created a new chapter book section especially designed toward the second and third graders.  Non fiction books are also playing an important part in your childs learning process, so I will be asking the kids to take one chapter book at their reading level and one interesting nonfiction book to read each week.  Please encourage your child to read every night.

The older grades are busy reading and learning about authors, non-fiction titles and literary genres, but also emphasis is focused on new technology applications, Microsoft Office  and important research skills.  21st Century learning includes web 2.0 usage, creating digital projects and video online as well as assessing and utilizing online information and databases.
