Mathematics
The Math Curriculum works with the Everyday Math Series from The University of Chicago School Mathematics Project. The focus is for children to develop their own problem solving techniques after bein introduced to multiple methods. Skills are only graded after working together on them at least three times. Each lesson will introduce a new skill as well as reinforce a skill introduced in previous lessons. Quizzes are given to assess if these skills are mastered and to help see what is needed to be reinforced more by the end of the unit. HOMEWORK PACKET At the beginning of each unit, there is a homework (or homelinks) packet given out to your child. This is a stapled packet with the homework for each lesson of the unit. When a lessson is completed in class, the homework page that goes along with it is assigned. It is not recommended to go ahead and finish the packet before lessons are covered. The homework packet is collected the day before the test and checked for completion. There is also a family letter that goes home too at the beginning of each unit. This letter includes vocabulary that will be covered as well as concepts we will learn about. This also includes the answer key for the homework. This will help you go over over the homework with your child when they finish. If there are any questions or concerns about the homework, please have your child bring it in and I will go review it with her/him. Please have your child bring the homework in if he/she has spent along time with it and is getting frustrated. The purpose of homework is to reinforce concepts, not turn kids off to math! TESTS There are eleven units that students will be studying, and at the end of each unit is a test. Study guides for each of these exams are passed out in advance. Just in case you would like to study well ahead of time or for some reason you or your child doesn't have one, they are listed below. GAME LINKS The links below can be valuable resources to try to reinforce each concept provided in the Everyday Math Chapters Unit 1: Routines: Time, Money, Patterns, Place Value Unit 2: Addition and Subtraction Unit 3: Measurement and Area Unit 4: Multiplication and Division
