Mrs. Stevens

Welcome to Mrs. Stevens' ESL Web Page!

"Bilingualism is a very advantageous thing-as it can only enhance their English, not interfere with learning, as is the common myth."

The primary goal of the OCSD ESL program is to increase the proficiency levels of second language students in the ELA skill areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing so that they may acquire the academic language and content-area knowledge necessary to function comfortably in an American classroom. Through the ESL program the ESL teachers also encourage the students' awareness of American customs and culture and, collaborating with the principal,  the school psychologist, literacy specialists and content-area staff, act as a liaison between school and home. Recognizing the diversity of ESL students, ESL teachers believe that it is important to foster their students' participation in American society while preserving the individual young person's language and culture.
