OMS student leaders serve as role models

With the 2024-25 school year well under way, several Oswego Middle School students have taken on various leadership roles as members of the Student Council and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).
These young leaders include Kendyl Ruggio, Phiona Buck, Kendell Duval, Anna Koskowski, Caden Victory, and Nolan Verburg. Through their actions, they have exemplified what it means to create a stronger school community with their commitment to service, academic excellence, and civic engagement.
“We try to make school fun and make sure everyone feels included,” Koskowski said.
Both the Student Council and NJHS have launched various initiatives to enhance student life, promote school spirit, and give back to the community. According to Ruggio, vice president of the NJHS, she and her peers have been exploring ways to help classmates who may need some additional assistance with homework.
“(NJHS members) are going to start tutoring during advisory period when we get back from Christmas break,” Ruggio said. “We thought this would be a good way to help other students who might be struggling.”
The groups also hosted a gratitude project during Thanksgiving week, and a holiday food drive, with all the items going to the local food pantry or Blessings in a Backpack.
“Our Student Council and NJHS members serve as fantastic student leaders in our building,” said OMS Principal Amy Godkin. “Their hard work and dedication inspire not only their peers but the entire school community. They are truly making a difference."
