OCSD to open School-Based Health Center
The Oswego City School District recently partnered with ConnextCare to launch a comprehensive school-based health center at Frederick Leighton Elementary School, set to open in January. The new health center will provide a wide range of medical, mental health, dental health, and preventative care services. These include routine physicals, vaccinations, treatment for illnesses and injuries, chronic disease management, behavioral health counseling, and oral health care. Operated by ConnextCare, a trusted community healthcare provider, the health center will offer convenient, high-quality services within the school to reduce barriers that often hinder students from receiving timely medical care.
"At the Oswego City School District, we believe that healthy students are better learners," said OCSD Superintendent Dr. Raymond Kilmer. "This partnership with ConnextCare reflects our commitment to ensuring every child has the support they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom. By providing accessible healthcare within our schools, we are creating an environment where students can focus on learning and achieving their potential."
The school-based health center will be staffed by licensed healthcare professionals, including nurse practitioners, behavioral health specialists, and clinical support staff. Services will be available to all OCSD students, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay, ensuring equitable access for every family in the community. These new services will be in addition to the School-Based Dental Program that opened at the school in early 2024.

The school-based health center initiative aligns with OCSD’s broader mission to prioritize the needs of its students, including their physical, emotional, and academic well-being. By reducing absenteeism and supporting overall health, the district aims to create a stronger foundation for student success.
