Oswego High School NHS Continues Support for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
The Oswego High School National Honor Society (NHS) chapter has continued its partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee, helping to treat childhood cancer and fund research for potential cures. St. Jude is fully funded through donations, and NHS has been raising funds for the hospital since the club’s inception.
NHS advisor and Oswego High School social studies teacher Kayley Morse said the mission of St. Jude continues to inspire chapter members to serve and raise funds through a letter-writing campaign to friends and family.
“All 62 chapter members recently gathered in the school cafeteria to personally sign 25 letters each,” Morse said. “The event brought everyone together to help those in need.”
The NHS juniors and event chairs for this project—Nia Evans, Liv Kapuscinski, Eli Belawske, and Andy Shaver—helped organize the effort. Since its partnership with St. Jude, the chapter has raised over $50,000.
“While we are providing service for a charity, the effort also builds character,” Morse said. “We’re fortunate for our health and to be able to do this.”
Earlier in the fall, the chapter also hosted a No Shave November event to raise funds for St. Jude. Each NHS member typically exceeds the 20-hour minimum service requirement each year.
Looking ahead, NHS will host a diaper drive throughout the month of April to collect diapers and pull-ups for the Oswego County Department of Social Services.
