OCSD extends fully remote model through Dec. 11 OCSD extends fully remote model through Dec. 11: Nov. 23, 2020 Dear Oswego City School District Community, I am writing to share that since our district stopped all in-person instruction last week, we have unfortunately continued to see a rise in confirmed COVID-19 cases and students and staff being quarantined. To add to this, we’ve continued to evaluate the local COVID-19 data that is being provided each day by Oswego County. Much of this information indicates that Oswego County’s COVID-19 cases are continuing to rise at an “alarming – rampant rate” and that there is significant concern about additional exposures that could occur over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. This case involves a district staff member who works at Oswego High School. The Department of Health is in the process of completing contact tracing activities. OMS honors students for Kindness OMS honors students for Kindness: At Oswego Middle School, the spotlight character trait of the month was kindness and the school honored a dozen students who help make their community a better place, even virtually. “During these challenging times, your kindness is an inspiration to everyone,” said OMS Principal Mary Beth Fierro said of the recipients. “Congratulations and keep up the great work!” OMS is proud to celebrate the following seventh- and eighth-grade students for showing kindness in October and throughout the year: Cadence Eiriksson, Zack Woodruff, Farrah Reed, Ethan Munger, Julia Pearson, Mikey Conzone, Jackson Hollenbeck, Seth Pagliaroli Miles Bandla, Harley Walpole, Madelyn Christ and Ian Partlow.

REMINDER: BOE Meeting 11.17 REMINDER: BOE Meeting 11.17: On Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 the Oswego City School District Board of Education will hold a regular scheduled board meeting and a Policy Committee meeting. Both meetings will be held virtually and streamed live. The policy committee will be held at 4 p.m. before the regular board meeting at 5 p.m. At the regular meeting there will be an executive session for the purpose of matters which will imperial the public safety if disclosed, the employment history of a particular person and negotiations. The first involves a non-staff member who visited the Oswego Middle School last Friday, November 6, 2020, who has tested positive for COVID-19. The Department of Health has completed contact tracing and has concluded that the school can continue to operate as normal. Drama Club releases 'OHS Old School Radio Theater' Drama Club releases 'OHS Old School Radio Theater': The Oswego High School Drama Club is pleased to announce its first production of the year, ‘OHS Old School Radio Theater.’ The first release is a series of horror and suspense tales times for the Halloween and late autumn season, including “The Black Cat,” “Dracula” and “Sorry Wrong Number.” The OHS Drama Club is planning a second release of holiday-themed shows before the holiday break, so stay tuned! View our Virtual OMS Open House View our Virtual OMS Open House: Open House is an annual tradition and even with the ongoing pandemic, Oswego Middle School has found a way to keep that tradition going. The OMS team came together to create short videos with messages from departments and educators from all around the school. “We’d like to welcome you to our 2020 fall Open House,” Principal Mrs. Mary Beth Fierro says in the introductory video. “It’s a meet the teacher and see the school night, and we’re doing it virtually/remotely this year!” In total, around two dozen videos are now available on the OCSD website for OMS’s virtual Open House. The team at Charles E. Riley (CER) Elementary School came together ahead of the spooky-themed holiday to sing and collaborate on a video that features artwork and the song “The Ghost of John,” an old, well-known round. “Traditionally we sing this round in general music as it works on several different high level musical skills in a fun way,” said CER K-6 Choral/General Music teacher Ceara Windhausen, who came up with the idea for a collaborative video for the Elementary literacy initiative “Spooktacular.” Windhausen wrote the musical arrangement for ...

Shorter OCSD marching band season planned for spring 2021 Shorter OCSD marching band season planned for spring 2021: Noting a large volume of support for and inquiries about the Oswego City School District marching band season, Superintendent Dr. Mathis Calvin III said Tuesday, Oct. 6 a shorter season would take place in the spring. After discussions with staff and reviewing survey results from program members, the decision was made to move forward with plans to offer a spring season that could include socially distanced practices and a performance on the turf. “They really want to do a performance out on the new turf,” said Dr. Calvin, adding the hope is things by spring will have calmed down with COVID-19 enough to grant the program, and importantly the outgoing seniors, their wish. OCSD protocols to help streamline, clarify questions and concerns process OCSD protocols to help streamline, clarify questions and concerns process: District administrators at Tuesday, Oct. 6’s OCSD Board of Education meeting unveiled new protocols and a flowchart designed to help guide those with questions and concerns to the best resource, and ensure they’re resolved as quick as possible. Oswego City School District Superintendent Dr. Mathis Calvin III presented the new Protocol For Resolving Concerns to Board of Education members and said the district would be contacting parents soon with the chart, which describes 20-plus question subjects and who to reach out to first, second and down the line if a problem hasn’t yet been resolved.
