Update regarding Class of 2022 Junior Prom Update regarding Class of 2022 Junior Prom: May 12, 2021  Dear Junior Class & Parents, Yesterday afternoon a letter was sent to all parents and students about this year’s prom.  In the letter, School Principal, Mr. Patrick Wallace, explained that due to the decline in interest in a formal prom, holding the function is not a viable option this year.  However, our high school team is working with local venues to hold a special event - celebration for the Class of 2022. While it won’t be the same formal event, we hope it gives students something to look forward to with their classmates. Details of the new event will be shared soon by Principal Wallace. Two spectators per opposing athlete at OCSD events allowed Two spectators per opposing athlete at OCSD events allowed: May 12, 2021 Dear Oswego City School District Community, I am writing to share that effective immediately, the district will be allowing  two spectators   from opposing teams  to attend all athletic events.   All spectators will be required to follow all mitigating strategies that the district has put into place for all athletic contests (wearing a mask, social distancing – 6 feet, handwashing and/or use of sanitizer where necessary, adhering to screenings). OHS Announces National Honor Society Inductees OHS Announces National Honor Society Inductees: The Oswego High School recently celebrated the induction of 31 new students into the Owl’s Head Chapter of the National Honor Society.   Honorees were recognized in a limited in-person ceremony, where each new member committed to the four pillars of the NHS: scholarship, service, character and leadership. Prior to their induction, students were required to apply and meet specific criteria to be considered during the selection process. Inductees are required to maintain a 90 percent unweighted GPA, demonstrate leadership qualities and complete various community service requirements.   "This group of 31 individuals went above and beyond, even in the midst of a pandemic, to demonstrate scholarship, leadership character and service,” said NHS Advisor Kayley Morse. ...

Specifically, all Oswego City School District schools and offices will be closed on Friday, May 28, 2021 and Tuesday, June 1, 2021 along with May 31, 2021 as the Memorial Day observance.   Accordingly, students should not report for in-person or remote learning on these days. Earlier today, the district met with a variety of school community stakeholders to discuss our reopening plans. Letter: In-person learning update 04.13.21 Letter: In-person learning update 04.13.21: April 13, 2021 Dear OCSD families and community, As a follow-up to my letter from yesterday, I am writing to share that after a thorough review of the recently released NYSDOH Interim Guidance for in-person instruction at Pre-K to Grade 12 schools, the district has no choice but to revise its plans for bringing back grades 4-12 students for more in-person learning. Zero Waste Challenge winners announced Zero Waste Challenge winners announced: Three Oswego Middle School students recently found out they earned the top three prizes through the Oswego Environmental Club’s Zero Waste Challenge. The club offers all Oswego City School District (OCSD) students in grades seven through 12 a challenge to establish at least one habit that positively benefits the environment. Leah Capozzi finished first, Andrew Shaver was second and Peyton Bond took third place. All three students are in seventh grade at OCSD. “It was a great year and I want to congratulate the winners on a job well done,” said Catherine Celeste, a middle school teacher and advisor to the Environmental Club. “Everyone who took part did some great work and hopefully we helped form some habits that will stick and help our planet.” ...
BOE announces Audit Comm., Budget Workshop meetings BOE announces Audit Comm., Budget Workshop meetings: The Oswego City School District Board of Education will be conducting the following two meetings: On Monday, April 12, 2021 the Oswego City School District Audit Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m.   On Tuesday, April 13, 2021 the Oswego City School District Board of Education will be conducting a Budget Workshop starting at 4:30 p.m. This workshop will be virtual and live streamed . Leighton students top 36K minutes for Read-A-Thon Leighton students top 36K minutes for Read-A-Thon: Frederick Leighton Elementary School Principal Stephanie Griffin challenged her students to read, read, read and they responded in a big way. The Oswego City School District students collectively read 36,113 minutes, or more than 600 hours, for the school Read-A-Thon and earned the goal they were striving for: They asked Griffin to eat a hot pepper and have a bucket of slime poured on her. Griffin recorded her part of the deal before spring break in front of a large portion of Leighton’s teachers and staff, who cheered on and laughed along with the principal. “It was wild and an interesting experience, but it was for a great cause and the students worked very hard,” said Griffin. “I’m so proud of their efforts and hope it’s helped build up reading ...
