Non-Credible Threat at Oswego High School:

Dear Oswego CSD Community,
I am writing to share that earlier today the district was informed by several of our students that there was information circulating on social media that could be considered to be a threat to the district.
As a result, local authorities were immediately contacted and began to investigate this concern. After doing so, it was determined that the threat was not credible and the posted information was removed from social media. However, given the content of the posted information, local police arrested the individual who posted it.

OHS students participate in Rachel's Challenge Chain Reaction activity:
Oswego High School students in grades 9-12 recently had the opportunity to participate in the Chain Reaction Program provided by Rachel’s Challenge. Chain Reaction is a transformational day of fun, leadership, and power that can change the way people view one another.
The goal of Chain Reaction is to help stop bullying, violence and alienation that are parts of the school experience for millions of young people every day. Through a variety of games, trust-building activities, and presentations, OCSD students were given a unique opportunity to see themselves and the people around them “through a new set of eyes.”

OCSD hopes to create ‘daily habit’ of reading with Read to Them initiative:

OSWEGO — The Oswego City School District elementary and middle schools will start the “Read to Them” initiative on Monday as a way to encourage parents to read to their children.
“The whole idea of the program is to have kids and families reading together,” said Carin Reeve, the director of literacy for OCSD. “We do a lot of reading in school, but we really want to encourage this idea of reading with your kids as a daily habit.”

OCSD celebrates 2022-23 Open House season:
The Oswego City School District kicked off its 2022-23 fall Open House season on Thursday evening with building open houses at Frederick Leighton Elementary, Kingsford Park Elementary, and Charles E. Riley Elementary.
Families and students toured classrooms and building facilities and participated in informational sessions and family-friendly activities such as scavenger hunts and various arts and crafts.
Oswego High School will celebrate a building-wide Open House on Monday, September 26 from 5-7 p.m., followed by Fitzhugh Park on Tuesday, September 27 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Oswego Middle School will host their "Meet the Teacher, See the School" Open House on Wednesday, September 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Dear OCSD parents and guardians,
I am happy to report that the previously announced power-related concern has been resolved and we are moving forward with plans to have all our summer programs as originally planned tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 1, 2022.
All programming, including the elementary and OMS enrichment programs, OHS summer school, the extended school year and summer feeding programs, will go forward as intended Monday. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this reversal, but we wanted to offer these invaluable services that many depend on if it was possible.

Dear OCSD staff, families and community,
I am writing this evening regarding an alleged event that was reported to the district in late May. This incident involved an Orbeez Gel Ball Blaster. This blaster, when utilized, is able to project small gel balls and/or water beads.
While this blaster is considered a toy by some, it has been considered to be a weapon by others and is a violation of the district’s Code of Conduct.
What information was reported to the district?

Fitzhugh Park welcomes Amy Molloy as principal:

Dear Oswego CSD Community,
I am writing to share that at last nights Board of Education meeting the Boards accepted my recommendation to appoint Ms. Amy Molloy as the new principal for Fitzhugh Park Elementary School.
Ms. Molloy is currently the grades 7-12 principal for Cato-Meridian Central School District. Prior to that she served as Director of Special Education and Middle School principal at Sandy Creek CSD and as an assistant principal for the Rome City School District at Rome Free Academy.
Ms. Molloy will begin her tenure at Fitzhugh Park on July 5. As we approach the fall season the district will be planning a future meet and greet for parents and community members.

Buc Boosters congratulate senior scholar-athletes on a "job well done":
The Oswego Buc Boosters recently recognized senior scholar-athletes from the class of 2022 during an outdoor evening ceremony on the turf field at the high school athletic stadium. The annual event was organized by the Buc Boosters.
Sean Callen, president of the Buc Boosters, welcomed student athletes and their families with some opening remarks, noting how the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper on students’ ability to participate in the sports they love. Callen commended the seniors who stuck with their sport all the way to the end of their high school career.
